Introduction

The Silverfish IDP is a language-centric Internal Developer Portal for understanding how your software is organised, what it depends on, andhow it maps to your development standards. Unlike other IDPs that tend to be programming-language agnostic, Silverfish focuses on having a deep understanding of supported languages, enabling it to intelligently scan repos, identifying components, language versions, dependencies and code quality and compliance metrics automatically.

The Silverfish IDP Dashboard is built around a few core ideas:

• Workspaces group related organizations and provide shared configuration.
• Organizations map to collections of source repositories.
• Repos are scanned to discover languages, components, and dependencies.
• Components represent the software units found in those repositories.
• Hierarchies let you describe how components are grouped inside your organizations.

For most users the normal journey looks like this:

1. Sign in with GitHub.
2. Install the required GitHub app.
3. Open your automatically created organization.
4. Choose which repositories should be scanned.
5. Review the discovered components and repository structure.
